Using this transceiver comes with a rental fee (paying for access to Iridium satellite network) of about $15 USD a month but if you are serious about having as little intermittent loss of signal as possible it's worth it. This module allows a microcontroller project to wirelessly be controlled literally anywhere in the world (even the polar region) because of Iridium network's blanket coverage.
