You can't just expect NASA to do the kind of space research you want done. Sometimes you have to do it yourself!

This kit allows you to assemble an actual miniaturized satellite that is fit enough to be put into space.

According to the Wikipedia article entry for "cubesat":

A CubeSat (U-class spacecraft) is a type of miniaturized > satellite for space research that is made up of multiples > of 10×10×10 cm cubic units.

That is exactly what this kit offers. You get both the software and hardware that is standard for a single cubesat module. Cubesats are already being used by citizen scientists and amateur radio operators.
