If man evolved from monkeys and apes, why are there still monkeys and apes?

This is a common misunderstanding of evolution theory. Humans (Homo Sapiens), chimpanzees and apes all evolved from a common ancestor which is now extinct. This "Pan-Homo split" occurred over millions of years through processes of speciation and hybridization. Therefore chimpanzees and apes as we know them today only came into existence between around 23 million-4 million years ago.

According to https://www.livescience.com/60093-last-common-ancestor-of-apes-humans-revealed.html the last common ancestor primate of humans and apes may have looked similar to a baby gibbon ape.
