Optimistic About a Technological Future
This is the kind of thing that makes me optimistic about the future. Things like using silicon to exploit quatum effects isn't near-term future but God willing I expect to live at least two or three more decades minimum so it's something I can eventually see changing the world.
It is like the old quote often attributed to William Gibson: "The future is already here. It's just not evenly distributed yet.” Right now the idea of moving from silicon transistors to qubits on a chip is theoretical. Even if it happens the machines for fabrication that exist today will be replaced. The process won't be instant but the incentive to change will be there.
