Misfit Misadventures at HiveFest 2020
I tried doing the VR experience on AltspaceVR for HiveFest 2020. Maybe it would have been better with a headset but my 2D desktop app experience was difficult. From what I am seeing others such as @markkujantunen and @revisesociology also had problems. I decrypted a message sent to my Hive wallet for a password but was never asked for a password when entering the world so maybe I did something wrong. I don't know.
I went to a cabin that apparently was for sign-ins. I looked around but I couldn't find any badge computer.
I found what appeared to be a teleport station to the mainstage. I used similar teleport stations in an AltspaceVR 101 event last night so I know how those function but this one didn't seem to work.
I wasn't alone. Several others were confused. We just stood there like mindless zombies. Maybe we were becoming zombies due to a virus. It's 2020 after all.
I wandered around further and found other abandoned misfits such as myself that were left behind.
I think some kind of religious cult was starting to form in front of a HiveFest map worshipping the mystic blue light that was in front of it. Look at the beard on that avatar. He's definately the cult's leader.
Eventually someone started playing background music over their microphone. I decided to log out before the FBI showed up to round everyone up for unauthorized public performance of a copyrighted recording.
Don't get me wrong. It wasn't a complete waste. I made as many friend requests in HiveFest purgatory as I could and many accepted and are now in my friends list. It was some good networking there.
There's the YouTube livestream but I am sure that will be archived so I can just watch that later. I don't think I get a badge for watching the livestream. I don't think I'll get any HiveFest badges but at least I tried. Maybe next year's HiveFest will also be virtual and I'll try again.
