Happy 80th Birthday "Baghdad Bob"
Long before American politicians were downplaying COVID-19 as thousands died of the virus and millions became unemployed due to the pandemic; one man stared into media cameras and, over the sounds of explosions, said everything was just fine.
Muhammad Saeed al-Sahhaf aws born in Iraq on July 30, 1940 according to Wikipedia. He went into politics as a career and during the 2003 invasion of Iraq became known internationally by the nicknames "Baghdad Bob" and "Comical Ali". As the Information Minister under then Iraqi President Saddam Hussein he gave numerous press briefings.
While troops from the United States, Australia, the United Kingdom and Poland were playing chess "Baghdad Bob" was playing Choose Your Own Adventure. If Iraq soldiers were AWOL "Baghdad Bob" would describe American soldiers committing suicide. As spokesman for Hussein's government Muhammad Saeed al-Sahhaf had the credibility of a Flat Earth YouTuber and the authentic information sources of an anti-vaxxer activist.
The one thing for sure "Baghdad Bob" can truthfully claim is that he got off relatively scot free after Hussein's government fell. Probably because of the overwhelming video documentation that he was clueless about everything.
