Learning More About the Universe Every Day
While watching the video linked below about whether there are hundreds of billions or trillions of galaxies in the observable universe I was thinking about how much advancement there has been in astronomy. 100 years ago today almost everyone believed the Milky Way galaxy as we know it today was the entire Universe. Then scientists realized Andromeda was a separate galaxy.
Back when the first exoplanets were discovered I, like everyone else, considered Pluto a planet. According to nasa.gov there are now over 4000 "confirmed" exoplanets. That's zero known examples to several thousand in less than 30 years.
Imagine how much more about the Universe will be known in 30 years.
