Yesterday's Isaac Arthur video was about the "prime directive" so it made sense to watch the YouTube video on his channel titled "Welcome to the Galactic Community!" after that. There are some intersections with the video I watched yesterday. Mostly that once Earth is contacted by an alien civilization the logical question would be why at that time and not before? Maybe it's a matter of technological development or once humans develop enough to leave the solar system we'll meet the other civilization so they just announce themselves shortly before that would happen. Partly as a joke at the end of the video the possibility is brought up that other civilizations are protecting Earth until humans get to the point that they can defend their own planet and first contact will be the aliens presenting a bill for all the protection services that were done up to that point.
